Position Responsibilities:

As the leader in implementing GEC projects focused on community-based management of forest, peatland, and mangrove ecosystems in Mersing, Johor, and Peninsular Malaysia, including conservation and restoration efforts, hydrology management, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions prevention, and development of sustainable livelihood programmes based on mangrove forest resources for local community groups, your responsibilities will include:

• Providing technical support on best practices in forest, peatland, and mangrove management and restoration, along with impact evaluation techniques;
• Overseeing ongoing projects on community-based management of forest, peatland, and mangrove conservation and restoration;
• Managing and coordinating nature-based product development projects linked to sustainable livelihood;
• Collaborating with other organizations to establish strategies for design, technology, product development, and vendor engagement;
• Developing new projects and activities in partnership with local government, communities, private sectors, and NGOs;
• Supervising and guiding a team of project programme officers, supporting capacity building, knowledge sharing, and resource management to ensure the team is equipped to support GEC's current and future programmes/initiatives;
• Supporting measures to empower and enhance the livelihoods of targeted local communities;
• Developing strategic project implementation plans and supporting the sustainability of existing community programmes; 
• Establishing linkages and fostering collaboration among key stakeholders in Johor and Peninsular Malaysia; and
• Developing and implementing awareness and education programmes for school students, local communities, and other stakeholders.

 

Job Requirements:

• Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision;
• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (product development, forest/peatland/mangrove/coastal conservation biology, environmental science, social science, natural resource management, climate change, or programme management);
• Minimum 3-4 years of relevant working experience involving community-based product development or natural resource management;
• Strong people management and leadership skills, with a proven ability to mentor and motivate others;
• Willingness to work in field conditions and adapt to irregular working hours;
• Pleasant personality with good public relations capabilities;
• Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, especially within local communities and multi-stakeholder contexts;
• Fluent in Malay and English; and 
• Proficient in writing and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

• As the leader of the KYC team, Manage KYC operations based on MAS regulated bank compliance policies and KYC regulatory requirements.
• Support the business to conduct customer check (KYC/CDD) analysis for new business or initiative.
• Lead the planning and establishment of KYC capabilities including CDD, PEP, Sanctions, Adverse news review and due diligence capabilities for financing business.
• Establish and improve KYC product capabilities, including on-boarding system, periodic review system, screening system.
• Work closely with AML Compliance Officers (AMLOs) and Risk Officers to understand the regulatory requirements, status of system capability in relevant entities, identify the gaps if any, and propose the requests for system building or enhancement to relevant teams.
• Collaborate with middle office and technology team to raise the system requests and to convert the business requirement into product requirement. Implement changes in processes or workflows and drive optimization.
• Support the Risk and AML operation and link up with the business in case of any escalation

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of KYC/AML experience with a payment service provider, money service operator (MSO) consulting firm, or financial institution. Must have more than 3 years of team lead or manager experience. Those who have engaged in KYC/CDD for corporate client are preferred.
• Have excellent interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with colleagues across regions and business units. An accountable team player with collaborative spirit, ability to build rapport with internal stakeholders and customers.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks with the skills to adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment
