At the Science Museum Group (SMG), we are committed to engaging our audiences with our Collection and creating unique and inspiring experiences though the insights it offers. Research plays a fundamental role in this; the Research and Public History Department exists to support and grow research activity across our museums.
SMG is now 22 months into its major research project, "The Congruence Engine: Digital Tools for New Collections-Based Industrial Histories". Its aim is to show how digital humanities, AI and other computational tools can be used to link collections for the purpose of doing new historical work and to enhance access to collections. We are looking for a Research Support Officer to join the team on a fixed term contract until September 2024. This is a full-time, 35 hours per week position based at the Science Museum with the option of hybrid working included.
About the role
As Research Support Officer, you will work with the Science Museum Group Research Team to deliver support for: grant applications, including financial aspects (pre-award) and grant administration (post-award). You will work alongside the postgraduate training, grant-writing, E-Journal and research project teams to ensure smooth running of the department, its associates and students.
This role includes a two day per week commitment to project management within the Congruence Engine project. During this time you will provide core budgetary, contractual and administrative support to this project.
About you
Joining us you will have experience of dealing with research grants. You will be able to communicate effectively with people at all levels of experience and status, enabling you to work effectively in a team environment.
Crucially, you will have experience using Microsoft Office programmes such as Excel, Word and Outlook and you will be able to manage confidential and personal information with discretion.
