Job Description
Assistant Professor, Shengxiao (Alex) Li (Department of Architecture) is looking for a full-time research assistant/engineer to join in January 2025 and work on projects related to migration of older people and sustainable governance. Potential projects include using LinkedIn data to examine employment networks of sustainability-related employees and their impacts on governance outcomes, and migration networks of older Americans and potential drivers. The research assistant/engineer will meet with Alex regularly and report directly to Alex. Tasks of the research assistant/engineer include but not limited to reviewing literature; collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data sets; preparing research reports and funding applications; and fitting models using network analysis or big data analytics. They will also have the opportunity to work with a group of scholars from various disciplines, including but not limited to economics, sociology and engineering, and co-author on academic papers (depending on the contributions of the person hired for this position)
The position is a one-year appointment and might be renewable based on the performance and career plan of the hired person.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering, data science, computational social science, or other relevant disciplines by January of 2025.
- Good time management and multi-tasking skills;
- Passion/interest in one or more topics above;
- Excellent spoken and written English;
- Highly motived and with independent working ability;
- Statistical knowledge and command at least one of the following programming languages: R/Stata/Python.
- Experience of working on literature review and data analysis.
- Experience of using network analysis methods;
- Experience of using large-scale data sets, like smartphone data, smart card data, or large-scale administrative data;
Preferred skills:
- Excellent communication and experience in interviewing in English;
- Experience in interdisciplinary collaborations and research.
