About The Role
We are expanding our Frontend Engineering team at Self Financial. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on building and enhancing our mobile app and web experiences, directly impacting a large customer base. The ideal candidate will be part of a high-performing team that values quality, innovation, and seamless user experiences. We operate in a fast-paced, "team-of-teams" environment with frequent releases, emphasizing continuous improvement and agility.
This position is open across multiple levels, and final titles and levels will be determined based on experience, scope of impact, and competencies. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal leadership role—shaping technical strategies, leading high-impact projects, mentoring engineers, and setting standards for engineering excellence. Your expertise will influence multi-team initiatives, address systemic challenges, and contribute to the organization’s technical and cultural growth.
Qualifications
- 8-12 years of software engineering experience, with a focus on frontend web and/or mobile applications
- Proficiency with JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and modern frontend development fundamentals
- Experience with HTML/CSS and web technologies such as Next.js is a plus
- Strong background in building and consuming REST APIs
- Familiarity with engineering tools like Git, Jira, and Confluence
- Comfort with cross-stack collaboration, including debugging APIs/services; experience with Python or similar languages is advantageous
- Knowledge of GraphQL, SQL/Postgres, cloud/AWS, and Agile methodologies is a plus
- Proven leadership in technical projects and cross-team collaboration
- Experience mentoring engineers and defining technical directions
Responsibilities
- Develop customer-facing experiences that are seamless across Android, iOS, and web platforms
- Integrate frontend functionality with REST APIs and third-party services such as feature flags, analytics, and messaging platforms
- Ensure high quality through testing strategies, code reviews, accessibility standards, performance profiling, and safe deployment practices
- Provide architectural guidance, addressing systemic technical challenges and optimizing platform performance
- Drive alignment among engineering, product, and business teams to maximize project impact and value
- Lead cross-team architectural discussions, technical strategy, and platform improvements
- Mentor junior and senior engineers, fostering growth and technical excellence within the team
- Guide solution design, ownership, and accountability across projects
