About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Squad Engineer to join our Hierarchy Squad at ClickUp. This pivotal role involves building, maintaining, and scaling core tier 1 services that underpin our all-in-one productivity platform. The Hierarchy Squad is responsible for managing the ClickUp filesystem, which is fundamental to the platform's architecture. As a Squad Engineer, you will work closely with cross-functional teams including engineers, designers, and product managers to develop high-performance, reliable backend systems. Your expertise will be critical in architecting distributed systems that are both scalable and resilient, ensuring seamless integration across the platform. Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional experience developing backend services for SaaS products
- Proven track record of building and scaling high-throughput backend systems
- Expertise in relational database query optimization, particularly PostgreSQL
- Extensive experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases and data modeling
- Strong understanding of RESTful API design and implementation
- Experience with agile development methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban
- Proficiency with version control systems, especially Git
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for tackling technical challenges
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively within a team
- Experience with microservices architecture and containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes
- Familiarity with frontend technologies such as Angular, React, or Vue (preferred)
- Professional experience with Node.js, Express, and NestJS (preferred)
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain robust, scalable backend systems using Node.js, Express, and NestJS
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, designers, and product managers to drive project progress
- Optimize database queries to ensure maximum efficiency and performance
- Improve existing codebases for better performance, reliability, and user experience
- Troubleshoot and debug production issues promptly to ensure smooth platform operations
- Share technical knowledge and expertise to promote a culture of continuous learning and growth
- Design and implement distributed systems that are reliable and highly performant
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment processes to uphold quality standards
- Assist in defining technical strategies and best practices for backend development
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously enhance platform capabilities
