About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Backend Engineer to join our Music Discovery Platform team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the development and architecture of scalable, high-performance backend systems that enable seamless music metadata management and discovery functionalities. As a key member of our Data Team, you will drive technical innovation, set coding standards, and mentor junior engineers to ensure the delivery of robust and efficient backend solutions. Your expertise will directly impact the user experience by powering our music recommendation, search, and catalog services with reliable, low-latency APIs and systems. This is a fully remote position, offering the opportunity to work with a talented global team dedicated to transforming the way users discover and enjoy music.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in backend services development
- Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Node.js, Python, or Go
- Deep understanding of API design, microservices architecture, and cloud-native development
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like GCP, AWS, or Azure
- Expertise with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment and testing
- Strong knowledge of databases such as PostgreSQL and BigQuery, caching strategies, and message queues like Kafka or RabbitMQ
- Familiarity with music metadata standards, recommendation systems, or audio streaming APIs is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (preferred)
- Experience with machine learning pipelines or recommendation engines (bonus)
- Knowledge of audio streaming services, music theory, or digital signal processing (preferred)
- Contributions to open-source projects or technical blogs (advantageous)
Responsibilities
- Architect and develop secure, scalable APIs for music catalog, recommendation, and search functionalities
- Design data models and manage integrations with third-party music metadata providers, streaming services, and analytics platforms
- Lead backend engineering efforts by setting coding standards, conducting code reviews, and mentoring junior engineers
- Collaborate with product managers, frontend developers, and data teams to define API specifications and ensure seamless user experiences
- Optimize backend services for performance, ensuring low latency and high availability
- Implement observability tools for system monitoring, logging, and alerting to maintain system reliability
- Evaluate and adopt new technologies and frameworks to enhance system capabilities and development efficiency
- Participate in technical planning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives
