About The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Software Engineer specializing in Python, Pyspark, Java, Big Data, and Data Modernization within J.P. Morgan's Asset and Wealth Management division. This role is integral to the Global Prime Brokerage Team, where you will be responsible for designing, developing, and leading the implementation of sophisticated data solutions that support the firm's strategic objectives. Your work will focus on building AI-first analytics platforms, autonomous data engineering agents, and modernizing legacy systems to a scalable, secure, and efficient data mesh architecture. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, data scientists, and business stakeholders, to deliver innovative solutions that enhance data governance, quality, and operational efficiency. This leadership position offers a unique chance to influence the firm's data strategy by driving automation, responsible AI practices, and enterprise-wide data modernization initiatives.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, complemented by over five years of applied experience in data engineering and analytics. Proven leadership in delivering AI-first analytics solutions at scale, including productized data mesh patterns and semantic data layers, is essential. Candidates should have extensive hands-on experience with big data platforms such as Spark, Databricks, Snowflake, and Iceberg, alongside strong programming skills in Python, PySpark, and Java, with expertise in CI/CD and containerization practices. Knowledge of ML pipelines, NLP/LLMs, and autonomous agent frameworks for schema drift detection, semantic reconciliation, and governance evidence generation is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate proficiency in data governance, lineage, data quality management, and regulatory compliance standards like BCBS 239. Excellent communication skills, experience working in agile environments, and the ability to lead and mentor teams are also required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with business and technology teams to develop innovative AI-first analytics and data product solutions aligned with strategic objectives.
• Define and enforce architecture standards for an AI-driven data product lifecycle, including semantic extraction, automated lineage, data quality, pipeline code generation, and self-service data consumption.
• Design and operate autonomous data engineering agents capable of detecting schema drift, proposing transformations, reconciling semantics, triaging data incidents, and maintaining governance evidence within human-in-the-loop controls.
• Build and maintain analytics platforms capable of supporting real-time and batch reporting, exploring new ideas to enhance analytics capabilities.
• Establish monitoring and alerting systems to ensure optimal performance, scalability, availability, and reliability of data solutions.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to team members; develop prototypes and demos for stakeholders, including senior management.
• Drive the adoption of enterprise-approved AI-assisted development practices to improve code quality, accelerate delivery, and enhance operational outcomes, including secure coding, peer reviews, and automated testing.
• Lead migration efforts from legacy analytics and reporting systems to modern data mesh ecosystems, reducing data fragmentation and duplication.
• Industrialize entity resolution and parent identification processes using ML and LLM solutions, standardizing analytical product packaging for reuse and monetization.
• Embed governance, data lineage, and data quality by design across critical domains, ensuring compliance and auditability in regulatory reporting.
