About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer, II - Autonomy Data, to join our remote team based in the US, with a focus on data infrastructure for autonomous vehicle systems. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining robust data pipelines, storage solutions, and tooling that support our autonomy program. Your work will involve transforming raw sensor logs from vehicles into structured, curated datasets that are essential for perception, planning, and simulation engineers. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on high-impact projects that involve large-scale sensor data management, data validation, and visualization, contributing directly to the development of autonomous trucking solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of data engineering experience, or Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience
- Proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience building production-quality data pipelines
- Experience with cloud data infrastructure, preferably AWS (S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift)
- Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
- Understanding of data partitioning strategies and columnar storage formats (Parquet, Orc, etc.)
- Experience processing time-series and binary data through data pipelines
- Ability to evaluate and integrate open-source tooling effectively
- Strong skills in data validation, monitoring, and lineage tracking
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork
Responsibilities
- Design and organize the data lake architecture, including schema definitions, partitioning, and metadata management
- Build and maintain end-to-end data ingestion pipelines that reliably transfer high-bandwidth sensor logs from vehicles to cloud storage, ensuring resilience against intermittent connectivity
- Implement data validation and integrity checks to detect corrupted data, missing sensors, or calibration issues before processing
- Develop data retention, tiering, and lifecycle policies to optimize storage costs and data accessibility
- Create tooling for querying raw logs to produce curated datasets for training and evaluation purposes
- Automate pseudo-labeling workflows to enhance dataset labeling at scale, ensuring cost-effectiveness
- Develop data quality metrics and monitor model performance to prioritize labeling efforts on high-value data
- Deploy and maintain data visualization tools supporting log review, annotation QA, and debugging workflows
- Integrate visualization tools with data lakes for seamless navigation from datasets to raw logs and model failure points
- Collaborate with autonomy engineers to define custom visualization panels and metrics for unstructured environment analysis
- Build dashboards providing visibility into data coverage across terrain types, operating environments, and geographic regions
- Establish and document data contracts between data services and model training teams
- Partner with perception, planning, and embedded engineering teams throughout the data lifecycle, from schema design to dataset interfaces
- Contribute to evolving data engineering standards, best practices, and tooling within the team
- Participate in defining the data roadmap and communicate findings to senior leadership
