Hack Chicago is the premier high school hackathon gathering 400+ student programmers throughout the Midwest for 24 hours of fun! Come in for free, and build something awesome.

Last year, we hosted Chicago Hacks, Chicago’s largest high school hackathon. With over 130 attendees and over 30 projects presented, it would be an understatement to call that just a success. We saw passionate hackers collaborate and build amazing things in 24 hours. Through workshops and mentorships, beginners and veteran programmers created awesome projects.

And it gets better. Through a partnership with Hack Club, we will be bringing an even larger event (400+ students!) to the Midwest. With more attendees, activities, and prizes, we expect this year to be a blast!

Great Culture for Entry-Level Tech Sales
Pros: The company culture at Hack Chicago is definitely a highlight for me. Everyone, from your peers to leadership, is really approachable and willing to help out, which is awesome when you're navigating an Outbound Business Development Representative role. There's a strong sense of teamwork in the AMER market, and the collaborative atmosphere makes it feel like we're all working towards common goals. It's a great environment for learning and growth, especially if you're new to the SaaS industry.
Cons: While the culture is generally positive, sometimes communication could be a bit more streamlined, especially between different departments. In a fast-paced tech company like ours, information flow can occasionally feel a little disjointed, which can impact daily tasks for an Outbound Business Development Representative. Also, sometimes during peak periods, the workload can become quite demanding, which can slightly challenge work-life balance for those in San Francisco trying to avoid burnout.
Advice to Management: Continue fostering the strong team culture and consider implementing more formalized cross-departmental communication channels to ensure everyone is always on the same page. Perhaps explore options for workload distribution during exceptionally busy sales cycles to help maintain employee well-being.

Excellent Flexibility for a Growing BDR Role
Pros: The work flexibility at Hack Chicago is excellent for an Outbound Business Development Representative. The hybrid model genuinely supported my work-life balance in San Francisco, CA, and I felt trusted to hit targets. This level of autonomy is a huge advantage in the fast-paced tech industry, especially for sales roles. The team culture for a BDR is also really collaborative. I gained valuable experience in lead generation and prospecting within the software development sector, and management
Cons: While the culture is generally supportive, communication flow from upper management could be more consistent, especially regarding evolving company strategies or changes in targets. Sometimes the approval process for new sales collateral or campaign ideas felt a bit slow, which can be challenging when you're trying to move fast as an Outbound Business Development Representative. This tech startup could benefit from streamlining some internal processes to better support its rapid growth. Job
Advice to Management: Continue to foster the flexible work environment as it's a huge asset. Focus on streamlining internal communication channels and approval processes to empower the sales team even further and clarify long-term growth paths for BDRs within the software industry.

Great Work Flexibility for BDRs in Tech
Pros: The biggest pro is definitely the work flexibility. As an Outbound Business Development Representative, I had a lot of autonomy over my schedule, allowing for a hybrid work model which is essential for me living in the San Francisco Bay Area. This kind of flexibility is uncommon for many sales development roles and really helped me manage personal commitments. The team culture is also quite supportive, with good collaboration among other BDRs and account executives, fostering a positive
Cons: While the work flexibility is excellent, there are times during peak sales cycles where the workload for a BDR can get pretty intense, requiring extra hours to hit targets. Also, the internal approval processes for some outbound strategies can sometimes feel a bit slow, which can impact agility. Career progression paths, especially for high-performing Outbound Business Development Representatives, could be more clearly defined for vertical growth within the company.
Advice to Management: Management should look into streamlining some of the internal approval workflows to empower the sales development team with quicker decision-making. Also, providing more transparent roadmaps for career progression for Outbound Business Development Representatives could help retain top talent.
