Pros: The core engineering work is genuinely interesting, dealing with complex production lines and quality control. You get to work with some cutting-edge technology in the data storage and HPC sector. The team I was part of in Indianapolis was fantastic – supportive, knowledgeable, and always willing to pitch in. Plenty of hands-on problem-solving opportunities that really let you flex your engineering skills.
Cons: The biggest drawback was the lack of clear, long-term career pathing for many roles. Promotions often felt slow or dependent on specific management changes rather than merit. Also, strategic decision-making from the top sometimes felt disjointed, leading to shifting priorities that could be frustrating for the production teams executing the work. Benefits are decent but not exceptional compared to some competitors in the advanced manufacturing industry.
Advice to Management: Focus on developing clearer, more consistent career progression frameworks and ensure leadership communications about company strategy are transparent and frequent to align teams effectively.
