SOLVE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to bring communities together to take care of our environment and enhance our waterways. We are dedicated to developing relationships among different groups, individuals, and businesses in pursuit of a common goal: to protect and preserve the places that make up our uniquely beautiful home. SOLVE mobilizes one of Oregon’s and SW Washington's largest volunteer networks to clean up our beaches, parks, neighborhoods, and other natural spaces through litter cleanups, invasive plant removal, planting native trees and shrubs, and other environmental projects. We annually support nearly 30,000 volunteers in 900 projects throughout the state.
Originally called S.O.L.V. (Stop Oregon Litter and Vandalism), SOLVE was founded by Governor Tom McCall and other community leaders in 1969 to address the need for community action in our ever-growing state.

Pros: The compensation package at SOLVE really stood out for this type of local services industry role. My hourly wage was competitive, especially for Salem, OR, and the health insurance benefits were solid, which is a huge plus these days. We also got a fair amount of paid time off, which helped with work-life balance. The team in field operations was generally great too, everyone worked together and helped each other out. It felt like a stable place to work as a Logistics Associate, Field
Cons: While the pay and benefits were good, sometimes the workload could get pretty intense, especially during peak seasons. It occasionally made it tough to maintain a consistent work-life balance. Also, I felt like the path for career growth for someone in my field operations role wasn't always clearly defined. More proactive communication about how to advance within the company or gain new skills would have been beneficial for employees in the local services industry.
Advice to Management: Consider implementing clearer pathways for career progression for field operations staff and ensure workload is managed effectively during busy periods to prevent burnout. Regular check-ins on benefit understanding could also be helpful.

Pros: The best part is the team atmosphere. It's easy to find mentors and collaborate on challenging projects. The company culture is generally positive and inclusive, making it a comfortable place to work. Flexible hours and the ability to work remotely have been huge for maintaining a good work-life balance. The industry is fast-paced, and SOLVE keeps up.
Cons: While leadership is generally supportive, there's sometimes a lack of clear direction on long-term strategy, which can lead to project pivots. Career growth opportunities, while present, aren't always clearly defined, so you have to actively seek them out. Benefits are decent but could be more competitive.
Advice to Management: Consider clearer long-term strategic roadmaps and more structured career development paths. Better communication on project goals would benefit everyone.
