DC Prep is a network of public charter schools serving over 2,100 PK3 through 8th grade students across six campuses in Wards 5, 7, and 8. We’re proud of being the highest-performing public charter network in Washington, DC – our students deserve our best! That pushes us to reflect on questions such as how we can facilitate our students’ academic, social and emotional development, how we can support our team members’ professional growth and personal ability to do this work long-term, and how we can engage our students’ families as our own.

Cons: While the flexibility to adapt teaching methods is good, the sheer volume of administrative tasks and paperwork can sometimes feel overwhelming, impacting work-life balance during peak periods. Communication regarding major policy changes could sometimes be more proactive. Balancing student needs with district-wide initiatives requires careful management.
Advice to Management: Consider streamlining some of the administrative reporting processes to alleviate teacher workload, and perhaps implement more flexible remote work options for administrative or planning tasks where feasible. Ensuring consistent communication about upcoming changes would also be beneficial.

Pros: The mission of DC Prep is truly inspiring, and you see the direct impact on students every day. There's a supportive network among colleagues, especially within my school site. Professional development opportunities are decent, and I've learned a lot about classroom management and instructional strategies relevant to urban education settings. The energy from the students is infectious and makes the hard work worthwhile.
Cons: The workload can be incredibly demanding, leading to significant work-life balance issues. Expectations often feel high, and while that drives results, it can also lead to burnout. Communication from leadership regarding systemic changes or resource allocation could sometimes be clearer and more timely, making it a bit tough to navigate strategic shifts.
