Arcaea (Ar-kay-uh). We're on a mission to build a new foundation for the beauty industry where biology as the creative tool for self-expression. We're growing new ingredients and product experiences for beauty through technology that includes DNA sequencing, biological engineering, fermentation and more. By culturing industry-leading, safe, and sustainable ingredients, we intend to create a new supply chain for the industry that does not rely on petrochemicals or on harvesting and depleting natural resources while making products that can deliver new functionality and performance across skincare, bodycare, haircare, and aesthetics. Arcaea was incubated on the Ginkgo Bioworks platform under the working title Kalo.

Pros: The culture at Arcaea is genuinely collaborative and supportive. I learned a lot, especially in my role as a Software Engineer. The Boston office is in a great location, and there's a decent amount of flexibility for remote or hybrid work. Project work was often engaging and pushed technical boundaries.
Cons: While the benefits package is okay, the actual salary offered for the Software Engineer position felt a bit below market average for Boston. Career growth opportunities are present but can feel a little slow-moving. Sometimes, management communication about strategic shifts could be clearer.
