Monroe Tractor provides new and used equipment sales, rental, service, parts and product support for the agriculture and construction industries throughout New York and New England and are the construction and agricultural equipment distributor for Case, Wirtgen Group, Leeboy, and Case IH, Claas, and Krause.
Founded in 1951 by Henry Hansen, Monroe Tractor started as a one-machine business out of a small cinder block building. Time passed and industries evolved--and we evolved with them, keeping ahead of new technologies and equipment, and becoming WBE certified in 2014.
We now have 18 locations across 4 states, but our central focus hasn't changed. We're committed to Henry Hansen's vision of taking care of the customer first, and we remain dedicated to our mission: We’re here to keep you working.

Pros: I appreciated the hands-on training and the opportunity to work on a wide range of equipment. Teamwork within the shop was strong, and I felt like I was constantly learning new skills as a Service Technician. The dealership itself is well-established in the Albany area.
Cons: Career progression can be a bit slow; sometimes it feels like advancement relies more on tenure than demonstrated skill. Communication between service, parts, and management could be more streamlined, especially when diagnosing complex issues or managing customer expectations during peak times.
Advice to Management: Invest more in clear, cross-departmental communication channels. Consider implementing a mentorship program or more structured paths for technicians looking to advance their careers beyond senior levels.

Pros: The best part is the people. My colleagues are experienced, helpful, and make coming to work enjoyable. We have a strong sense of teamwork, especially during busy seasons. The hands-on work with a variety of agricultural and construction equipment means I'm always learning new skills, which is great for professional development in this industry.
Cons: While work-life balance is generally good, it can get hectic during peak planting or harvesting seasons, leading to longer hours. The pay, while decent for the Syracuse market, doesn't always align with the specialized skills required. There are also occasional communication delays from upper management regarding broader company initiatives.
Advice to Management: Consider benchmarking technician salaries against competitors more frequently. Also, improve communication channels for company-wide updates to keep everyone informed and aligned.

Pros: I've been a Service Technician here for a few years, and it's been a really stable place to work in the agricultural equipment industry. You get hands-on experience with a variety of equipment, which is great for learning. The team in the service department is super supportive, and we all help each other out. There's good work flexibility for an onsite role, and management understands when you need to adjust things if possible. It feels like a solid, local company.
Cons: While it's a good company, the career growth path for technicians can feel a bit slow sometimes; promotions don't happen super often. Also, during planting and harvest seasons, the hours can get pretty long, so work-life balance takes a hit then. Communication from higher-ups isn't always as clear or quick as it could be, especially regarding new procedures or company-wide updates. It's nothing major, but these are areas for improvement.
Advice to Management: Focus on creating clearer career development paths for long-term employees and improve communication channels for company-wide updates, especially for technicians in the field.
