Good EdTech Role with Room for Improvement
Pros: Macmillan Learning really values its employees' well-being. The hybrid work model is fantastic, offering flexibility to balance personal life and professional responsibilities. The team culture is generally supportive, and I've learned a lot about digital publishing and educational content creation.
Cons: While flexibility is great, sometimes communication from leadership about strategic shifts can be a bit slow, leading to brief periods of uncertainty. Also, the pay, while competitive for the industry, doesn't always reflect the increasing cost of living in Austin.
Advice to Management: Consider more frequent and transparent updates on company direction to foster greater team alignment and proactive problem-solving, especially in this dynamic EdTech market.

Good Place to Learn and Grow in Publishing
Pros: The team environment at Macmillan Learning is generally supportive, and I've learned a lot about the publishing process for educational content. The company offers good work flexibility, allowing for remote or hybrid arrangements which is a huge plus for work-life balance. Opportunities to work on interesting projects are frequent, and colleagues are usually willing to share knowledge.
Cons: Sometimes project management and communication between departments can feel a bit disjointed, leading to minor delays. Career progression isn't always clearly defined for junior roles, making it a little hard to see the next steps. There's also a desire for more consistent application of best practices across all teams.
Advice to Management: Consider creating more defined career ladders and investing in cross-departmental training to improve project flow and transparency.
