Abode's mission is to end homelessness by assisting low-income, un-housed people, including those with special needs, to secure stable, supportive housing; and to be advocates for the removal of the causes of homelessness.
We develop and implement innovative programs to end homelessness. Our agency is built on the principles of Housing First, a proven approach that has demonstrated results far superior to the traditional approaches to homelessness.
We were founded in Alameda County in 1989 when a small group of people came together to address a growing problem with family homelessness in the Tri-City Area.
Since then, we have expanded our impact throughout the Bay Area, serving more than 15,000 adults and children each year in Alameda, Santa Clara, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Napa, and Solano counties. Our results show how effective our work has been in ending homelessness for vulnerable adults and children throughout our community.

Pros: I've found the work-life balance at Abode to be quite good for a software engineering role in the Bay Area. While there are deadlines, management generally respects personal time, and there's flexibility in how you manage your day. The team I work with is fantastic – very collaborative and supportive, which makes tackling complex problems much more enjoyable. I've learned a lot during my time here and feel like my contributions are valued.
Cons: While flexibility is generally good, during critical release cycles or unexpected project shifts, the workload can become intense, making it harder to maintain that ideal balance. Sometimes communication about shifting priorities could be clearer to allow for better planning. Career growth paths, while present, could be more clearly defined for individuals looking to advance within specific technical tracks.
