Creative BC is an independent non-profit organization created and supported by the Province to sustain and help grow British Columbia’s creative industries: motion picture, interactive and digital media, music and sound recording, and magazine and book publishing.
The organization delivers a wide range of programs and services with a mandate to expand B.C.’s creative economy. These activities include administering the provincial government's motion picture tax credit programs; delivering program funding and export marketing support; providing film commission services through the BC Film Commission; and driving strategic initiatives that position B.C. as a national leader in sustainable production and workforce innovation.
Combined, these activities serve to attract inward investment and market B.C. as a partner and destination of choice for domestic and international content creation. The society acts as an industry catalyst and ambassador to help B.C.’s creative sector reach its economic, environmental, and creative potential both at home and globally.

Pros: The best part of this role at Creative BC is definitely the mission-driven work. It feels good to contribute to the growth of film, TV, and other creative industries in BC. My colleagues are knowledgeable and supportive, creating a strong sense of teamwork. There's a decent amount of autonomy, and I appreciate the flexibility often afforded for personal appointments.
Cons: While flexibility is good, there are times, especially during peak application periods for grants or programs, where the workload can become quite intense, blurring the lines of work-life balance. Communication about strategic shifts or new initiatives could sometimes be more proactive from senior leadership to ensure everyone is aligned. Career progression pathways aren't always clearly defined.
Advice to Management: Consider implementing more structured professional development plans and clearer communication channels for strategic updates. Ensuring workload is managed effectively during busy periods would also be beneficial for maintaining employee well-being and focus.

Pros: I really enjoyed working as a Program Coordinator here. The mission to support arts and culture in BC is inspiring, and you genuinely feel like you're making an impact. The team collaboration is excellent, and there's a strong sense of community. The work-life balance is solid, and the work flexibility with hybrid options is a huge plus. It's a good place to learn about the non-profit side of the creative sector.
Cons: The main area for improvement is definitely the pay and benefits structure. While the extended health benefits are decent, the salary itself for a crown agency in Vancouver, BC, can feel a bit low compared to the high cost of living. Career growth opportunities are present but sometimes require a bit of patience due, in part, to public sector scales, which can be a little slow for ambitious individuals.
Advice to Management: Review the compensation bands, especially for roles that require specialized skills, to ensure they're competitive with the Vancouver market, beyond just basic public sector scales. This would help retain talent in the creative industries.
