Company Overviews

Applied Computing; our vision is to deliver sustainable abundance for a growing planet, through AI that works for the Energy Industry.

These industries are an enduring necessity, they power our planet, but their complexity has kept them tethered to legacy systems. These critical industries utilise less than 10% of their data for decision making and process optimisation.

Our flagship product, Orbital, is a Multi-Foundation AI system that enables these industries to finally trust AI in the control room, harness 100% of their data and optimise in real time for any metric unlocking faster decisions, safer operations, and higher performance.

With Orbital, we aim to transform how engineers and operators understand, and optimise their plants using trustworthy, physics-grounded AI.

This isn’t the future of Industrial AI, this is the first time it’s worked.

Great Tech Environment with Fair Compensation
Pros: The pay and benefits for a Software Engineer here in the UK are genuinely competitive, including a solid pension and health scheme. The team culture in our tech company is fantastic, very collaborative, and there are good learning opportunities.
Cons: While generally positive, some internal communication flows could be smoother, particularly regarding company-wide strategy updates. Also, career progression paths could be more transparent for all roles within the IT industry.
Advice to Management: Continue investing in employee development programs and perhaps explore offering more flexible benefits options. Enhancing transparency around career progression frameworks would also be highly beneficial.

Decent place for tech careers, good learning
Pros: Applied Computing provides a stable environment for tech professionals, particularly those in software development roles. The company invests in training and development, which has helped me grow my skills. I've found the teams to be generally friendly and willing to help, fostering a good collaborative spirit. Being in Harrow, the commute is manageable for many in the Greater London area. The industry here is fast-paced but engaging.
Cons: While pay and benefits are generally competitive, there's room for improvement to match some top-tier competitors in the tech sector. Some project management could be more streamlined, occasionally leading to last-minute rushes. Opportunities for rapid career advancement can sometimes be limited depending on team structure and openings.
Advice to Management: Consider enhancing the benefits package to stay competitive and streamline project planning to mitigate last-minute pressures.

Growth is tough for engineers here
Pros: Working remote from Austin, TX was a big plus. The initial compensation as a Software Engineer was solid for a mid-sized company. I appreciated the flexibility.
Cons: Career growth for technical roles, especially in software development, felt really slow. There's not much of a clear path to senior positions or management. I felt stuck after a couple of years.
Advice to Management: Invest more in structured career development plans for software engineers. Provide better mentorship programs to help employees see where they can go next.
