Software Engineer

Decent pay for a mid-sized tech company, but growth stalls
Pros: I've learned a ton about software development in my first year, which was great for a new Software Engineer. The pay for entry-level roles in Austin, TX is competitive. Also, the hybrid model offers some flexibility.
Cons: Career growth is definitely a big issue here. There's not much room to move up once you're past the junior level. Promotions feel pretty arbitrary, and you don't see many internal opportunities for advanced roles. As a Software Engineer, you can get stuck.
Advice to Management: Focus on creating clearer career paths for employees, especially for experienced Software Engineers. It would help a lot with retention to show people there's a future here.

Solid flexibility, but still some sync challenges
Pros: The work flexibility is genuinely good here. As a Software Engineer, I can mostly set my own hours, especially working remote from Texas. It's nice not being chained to a desk, which helps with my personal life.
Cons: Sometimes, coordinating across different time zones for our software development teams can be a pain. It's not always easy to connect with folks in the Seattle office, and there's still a bit too much meeting culture instead of true async work.
Advice to Management: Really lean into async communication tools and practices. It would help remote employees feel more integrated and cut down on meeting fatigue.
