Solid Flexibility for a Big Tech Company
Pros: I really appreciated the hybrid work model. As a Software Engineer, I could usually WFH a couple of days a week, which was a huge plus for my work-life balance. It's pretty consistent across teams in the data storage industry.
Cons: While the work flexibility is good, it sometimes feels like career progression is a bit slow. Some teams also have mandatory onsite days that can make planning a bit tricky. It's not totally remote for everyone.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize the hybrid model more across all departments. Clearer paths for career growth would help a lot too.

Decent Work-Life, If You Manage It
Pros: The hybrid work model is a huge plus, giving good flexibility. As a Senior Software Engineer, I usually wrapped up around 5-6 PM at the Sunnyvale, CA office. For big tech and the data management space, that's pretty good.
Cons: Project deadlines, especially in the storage solutions industry, can sometimes push weeks past 40 hours. There's not always great protection from scope creep, so you have to be firm. It's not always consistent.
Advice to Management: Encourage managers to actively help teams manage scope and protect engineers' time from constantly shifting priorities. Consistency in workload would really help.

Decent Work-Life Balance for Big Tech
Pros: For Senior Software Engineering roles, the work-life balance here is surprisingly decent. You're not always slammed with insane hours, which is great. There's a lot of remote flexibility, especially since the pandemic, making WFH easy. It's a stable company in the data management industry, so job security felt good.
Cons: Sometimes, project deadlines can get pretty intense, especially around quarter-end. It feels like everyone's scrambling then. Even with hybrid work, it's easy to blur the lines between personal time and work, so you have to be firm with boundaries. Career growth can feel a bit slow sometimes.
Advice to Management: Try to smooth out the intense quarter-end rushes and ensure teams have realistic project timelines. More clear pathways for career advancement would also be a huge plus for retaining talent.
