Okay Flexibility for Community Managers, But It's a Grind
Pros: I liked that as a Community Manager, I had some autonomy over my daily schedule within the building. If you needed to step out for an hour or adjust your lunch, it was usually fine. The collaborative environment in shared workspaces is also a plus for networking opportunities.
Cons: Work flexibility isn't great for the role. You're expected to be onsite most of the time to support members and handle operations. Remote work options are basically nonexistent for these onsite roles, which really impacts your work-life balance.
Advice to Management: Offer more structured hybrid or flexible hours for Community Managers, even if it's just one remote day a week. It would really help with burnout and make these essential roles more attractive for talent.

Pay is decent, but benefits are lacking
Pros: The base pay for a Community Manager in the New York City office felt pretty solid. I wasn't getting rich, but it was fair for the day-to-day operations and member engagement. Perks like wellness discounts were also a nice touch for those working in the flexible office space industry.
Cons: Health insurance options weren't great, honestly. The high deductibles made it tough to actually use. Also, the equity package was pretty minimal for my role, which felt like a missed opportunity considering WeWork's startup roots.
Advice to Management: Seriously look at improving the health insurance plans and consider better long-term incentives. Attracting and keeping talent in this real estate tech sector means offering a more competitive full package, not just a decent salary.

WeWork Culture Was Okay, But Always Changing
Pros: I've met some truly great people in Community Manager roles here. The energy in our New York City office was often pretty good, especially with all the activity in the coworking space industry. It's a fun environment if you like being around a lot of different businesses.
Cons: The company culture felt really unstable. There's been so much leadership turnover, it's hard to get a consistent vision. It definitely trickled down and made day-to-day morale tough for us onsite teams.
Advice to Management: Try to build a more stable vision for the company. Consistency in leadership would really help morale for onsite teams.

Good Culture, Slow Career Path
Pros: I really enjoyed the daily buzz in the New York City office. The team camaraderie for onsite staff was solid, and you meet tons of interesting people in the coworking space. It felt pretty exciting being part of the member experience.
Cons: As a Community Lead, there just isn't much room to grow. You hit a ceiling fast, and internal promotions are tough to come by. It's not a place for rapid career growth in a corporate environment.
Advice to Management: Create clearer internal progression paths for dedicated onsite roles. Invest more in leadership development for existing staff.
