Pros: I've learned a ton about elevator maintenance and the pay for a Field Service Technician is competitive. The job security at this corporate environment is really solid, which is a big plus. Benefits are good too.
Cons: The work-life balance, especially for onsite work in the Chicago area, is tough. You'll often be on call and working 50+ hour weeks. It's hard to make plans when your schedule shifts so much.
Advice to Management: Try to reduce the frequency of on-call rotation for Field Service Technicians. It would really help with employee burnout.

Pros: Working as a Field Service Technician for Otis Elevator Co. offers solid job security. The pay and benefits are good, and it's a stable career in the vertical transportation industry. You learn a lot doing elevator maintenance.
Cons: Work flexibility isn't great, especially for us out in the field. You're mostly tied to specific routes in the Chicago territory, so remote work isn't an option. The on-call rotations can really mess with your personal time.
Advice to Management: I know field work requires being onsite, but maybe find ways to optimize routes or offer more predictable on-call schedules. Improving communication about upcoming shifts would help a lot.

Pros: As a Field Service Technician, the job security is solid. You're part of a team in the elevator industry, which helps when you're out on tough maintenance routes. It feels stable being with a large global company.
Cons: The corporate environment can feel a bit old-school sometimes. Communication from higher-ups isn't always clear, especially for us in onsite roles. There's not much push for new ideas in the Chicago, IL branch.
Advice to Management: Try to listen more to the guys on the ground. Modernize some of the internal communication and processes for elevator installation and repair. Value new ideas.
