Good Managers, But Leadership Can Feel Distant
Pros: As a Software Engineer in the Mountain View, CA office, I've had some really smart team leads. They give us decent autonomy in our projects. Good project managers here understand technical challenges and support growth.
Cons: It's tough when you're working on agile development and big decisions take forever. Upper leadership feels really disconnected from day-to-day work. It's hard to get executive visibility unless you're on a high-profile team within this big tech company.
Advice to Management: Upper management should be more transparent and engage with individual contributors more. Speed up decision-making for large projects across different product areas.

Solid Flexibility for Most Tech Roles
Pros: As a Software Engineer, I've found the work flexibility pretty good. Most teams support hybrid work, so you aren't always in the Mountain View, CA office. It's nice to have that option and manage my own schedule a bit.
Cons: It's not truly remote for many big tech roles, often requiring 2-3 days in the office. This hybrid model can be tough if your manager isn't fully on board, and it's not consistent across all teams.
Advice to Management: Standardize hybrid work policies more clearly across all departments. Give managers better tools and training to support flexible schedules consistently, especially for globally distributed engineering teams. Consistency really matters.

Leadership Varies A Lot in Big Tech
Pros: Some individual team leads are really solid. They back their teams, especially for us Software Engineers, and care about our projects. You get a lot of autonomy if your direct manager is good.
Cons: Upper management often feels out of touch with day-to-day work in the Mountain View, CA office. There's a lot of bureaucracy that can slow down important product launches. Leadership decisions can seem pretty arbitrary sometimes.
Advice to Management: Focus on empowering mid-level managers more and ensure clearer communication paths from executive leadership. Reduce unnecessary red tape, especially for core engineering teams, to help accelerate product development.
