Software Engineer

Leadership can be a mixed bag here.
Pros: I've learned a lot technically as a Software Engineer in the Bangkok office. There's often a chance to work on interesting problems in the online travel industry. My direct manager was usually supportive, which helps a lot.
Cons: Upper leadership can feel pretty disconnected from the daily engineering challenges. Decisions sometimes change quickly, making it tough for engineering teams to plan long-term projects. There isn't always clear communication on strategic shifts, which is frustrating in a big tech company.
Advice to Management: Focus on better communication from upper management down to individual contributors. More consistent strategic direction would help reduce rework and improve team morale.

Fast-paced, decent if you manage expectations
Pros: I've really enjoyed the international team vibe in the Bangkok office. The hybrid work model helps some days, letting me avoid the commute. We get solid discounts on the Agoda travel tech platform, which is a nice perk.
Cons: Work-life balance for Software Engineer roles can be tricky. It's common to work more than 40 hours a week, especially around product launches on our e-commerce platform. There's a lot of pressure to deliver fast.
Advice to Management: Try to set more realistic deadlines for engineering teams. The constant crunch leads to burnout. Invest more in clear project scoping to avoid last-minute overtime.

Growth is slow for Software Engineers here
Pros: You get to work on some pretty cool global projects for a big online travel agency. The international team is solid and you learn a lot from diverse colleagues. The office environment in Bangkok is modern and comfortable.
Cons: Career growth is definitely a challenge as a Software Engineer. There isn't a clear path for promotion, and it feels like you have to fight for new opportunities. Sometimes it feels like lateral moves are easier than true advancement.
Advice to Management: They really need to create clearer career ladders and promotion criteria for technical roles. It would help retain good talent if people saw a future beyond their current role.

Hybrid Model is Okay, Could Be Better
Pros: The hybrid model for us Software Engineers is good; we get a few days working from home. It's really nice to avoid the insane Bangkok traffic a couple of times a week. The company does provide some flexibility in choosing your WFH days within the team.
Cons: True work flexibility isn't really a thing here. You're expected in the office for specific days, making it feel more like an onsite culture for many tech roles. There isn't much room for extended remote work, like going home to visit family for a month, which is common in other big tech companies.
Advice to Management: Consider offering more options for long-term remote work or truly flexible schedules, especially for senior tech roles. A more adaptable WFH policy would boost morale.

Decent place for tech, but culture needs work
Pros: As a Software Engineer, the work itself is often interesting. I really liked the international vibe in the Bangkok office, you meet people from everywhere. It's a solid place to learn new tech in the online travel industry.
Cons: The company culture feels a bit siloed sometimes. Communication can be tough between different departments, which slows down projects. There's also a strong 'work hard, play hard' mentality that can lead to long hours.
Advice to Management: Focus on improving cross-functional communication and fostering a more collaborative environment. Address the 'always-on' culture to support better work-life balance for employees.

Pay is decent, but benefits could be better
Pros: Working as a Software Engineer in the Bangkok office, the base pay felt pretty competitive for the online travel agency industry here in Southeast Asia. They offer good health insurance, and there's a yearly bonus that's usually decent.
Cons: However, annual raises are often small, even if you perform really well. For a big tech company, the benefits package isn't as robust as I've seen elsewhere; things like stock options are definitely lacking.
Advice to Management: Seriously consider increasing the frequency and size of raises to retain good talent. Adding equity or more long-term incentives would make the overall compensation package much more attractive for tech professionals.

Leadership is Okay, But Needs Improvement
Pros: My direct manager in the Bangkok office was solid, always approachable. You get a lot of autonomy as a Software Engineer if you prove yourself. The company does provide good benefits, which is a plus for the online travel industry.
Cons: Upper leadership often changes direction too quickly. It's tough to plan long-term projects when priorities shift constantly. There's not enough transparency from senior management on big decisions.
Advice to Management: Try to communicate big-picture strategy more clearly and stick to it longer. Frequent pivots make it hard for teams to execute effectively.

Pay is Okay, Benefits Need Work
Pros: The base salary for a Senior Software Engineer in the Bangkok office is competitive enough for the local market. They do offer some decent health insurance plans. It's a stable company in the online travel agency space.
Cons: The benefits package isn't great, especially when you compare it to other big tech firms. Stock options are pretty limited, and yearly raises don't always keep up with inflation. Don't expect huge bonuses.
Advice to Management: Focus on improving the overall benefits package. Better stock options and more competitive annual raises would help a lot with retention for engineering roles.

Leadership is a mixed bag, depends on your team
Pros: Some of the individual managers are genuinely supportive, which is great for a Senior Software Engineer. You get to work on interesting challenges within the travel tech industry. There's definitely smart people around, especially in the Bangkok office.
Cons: Upper leadership's vision can feel pretty inconsistent, honestly. There are frequent reorgs that really disrupt product development. Sometimes, decisions take forever, making it tough to push features.
Advice to Management: Leadership needs to communicate a clearer, more stable product strategy from the top. Empower middle management more to make decisions without constant top-down changes. Less reorgs would help everyone focus better.

Work-Life Balance Is Okay, Depends on Team
Pros: As a Software Engineer in the Bangkok office, my immediate team tried to stick to decent 40-hour weeks. There's some remote flexibility if your manager is cool with it, which helps a lot with the commute.
Cons: It's tough when you're on a global team; late evening calls are common for this online travel agency. Some project deadlines feel really aggressive, pushing work-life balance out the window, typical for big tech pressure.
Advice to Management: Management should really standardize expectations around working hours and global team meeting times. It'd help a lot with burnout in the travel tech space.
