Decent Security, Depends on Project Success
Pros: If your project is key, you feel pretty secure. They're a big player in the semiconductor industry, so there's always work if you're flexible. My team for ASIC design was really solid and collaborative.
Cons: Job security really dips when major projects get cancelled or wind down. It's tough as a Senior Hardware Engineer when the company restructures, you can get caught out. Remote roles seem more stable sometimes than those at the San Diego office.
Advice to Management: Try to communicate project changes and potential impacts sooner. More transparency for job security in the semiconductor industry would really help.

Hybrid Work Model is Just Okay
Pros: The hybrid work model is a decent step for a big tech company like MediaTek. It's nice to have some flexibility on certain days for Software Engineer roles, letting you avoid the San Jose traffic.
Cons: Still feels pretty rigid, though. We're expected in the San Jose office a set number of days, which doesn't always make sense for certain firmware development tasks. Not a lot of true remote options even for individual contributors.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate mandatory onsite days for roles that can be fully productive remotely. Trust your engineers more to manage their time and deliver without strict office presence.

Okay Flexibility, but Watch the Onsite Rules
Pros: They do offer a hybrid work model, which is a big plus for many. Being able to work from home a couple of days a week definitely helps with the commute in San Jose. For chip development roles, having some focused time at home is great.
Cons: The "flexible" part of hybrid work feels a bit rigid sometimes. You're expected in the office for specific days, and getting exceptions for those onsite requirements is tough. It can be a challenge for work-life balance when hardware integration projects demand more presence.
Advice to Management: Consider truly empowering teams to decide their onsite needs. A more flexible approach to the hybrid model would really boost morale and productivity, especially for engineers in the Silicon Valley.
