Post 1 – Clinical Oncology – Gastrointestinal (Photons, Protons)

Post 2 – Medical Oncology Targeted Therapy in Cholangiocarcinoma

Post 1:

Responsibilities include participation in radiotherapy for GI cancers, utilizing advanced techniques such as photon IMRT, SBRT, and protons. You will actively engage in weekly GI oncology clinics, multidisciplinary team meetings, and dedicated radiotherapy planning sessions.

Research Opportunities: Working alongside Dr. Douglas Brand, Dr. Steve Harris (Head of UCLH Clinical Research Informatics Unit), and Prof. Maria Hawkins, you will contribute to groundbreaking research endeavors. Focus areas include the development and testing of automated pipelines for clinical data extraction from UCLH Epic electronic health records. Additionally, you will explore cancer outcome predictive modelling, with a specific emphasis on predictors of outcomes to chemo-radiation in esophageal cancer.

Post 2:

Key Research Objectives:
1. Describe the molecular progression of patients with FGFR2 fusion cholangiocarcinoma treated with FGFR2 inhibitors.
2. Conduct high-depth exome sequencing to identify whether resistance pathways are present subclonally
3. Design targeted interventions based on research findings.

Clinical Training and Responsibilities:In addition to research endeavors, the successful candidate will actively participate in clinical duties. Responsibilities include assisting in the management of cancer patients, supervision of junior staff, participation in the acute oncology service, prescription of chemotherapy, and engagement in radiotherapy planning meetings and sessions.

The working hours for this post will be Monday Friday, 8.30am 16:30 although we will expect the post holder to work with their team flexibly in deciding the exact working pattern that best suits the post-holder and team. There is no on-call requirement for this post. The post holder: Is responsible to the Consultants and Registrar for the execution of their professional duties. They shall ensure that all patients admitted to the department are medically examined and assure that robust and appropriate treatment plans. They will attend ward rounds as arranged with Senior staff to acquaint themselves with patient management, and also at other times daily to ensure that all investigations, treatments ordered are carried out. They will ensure that good communication is maintained with staff in all specialties to the benefit of the patient. The will work as a valued member of the multi-disciplinary team and contribute to meetings and team decisions on patient care. They are responsible for the daily maintenance of in-patient notes, preparing Discharge letters (TTAs) for immediate dispatch to the patients General Practitioner and communicate with primary care and community services as needed. They shall make themselves available to talk to patients relatives if required, discuss treatment escalation plans and advance care planning decisions as needed. In carrying out their duties the Doctor will always be responsible for keeping their Senior Staff informed of serious cases on the ward, deaths, and any other matter which it is deemed necessary that their attention should be drawn to. Any cases in which there is doubt must be referred to a senior member of staff. To work as part of a team in the provision of an efficient and smooth running clinical chemistry service. The post holder will be required to perform a range of diagnostic tests and support functions across all sites within the Trust.
