Solid culture, but some growing pains
Pros: The team culture in the San Jose office is actually pretty good; people are helpful. For Design Engineer roles, you get to work on solid FPGA products and interesting hardware development. There's also decent autonomy once you're up to speed.
Cons: The overall company culture can feel a bit disjointed, especially with the newer push for hybrid work. Sometimes it feels like there are two different companies, which is tough for integration. Don't expect a 'big tech' level of perks or communication clarity.
Advice to Management: Work on bridging the gap between different employee groups and be more transparent about strategic decisions. Really define what 'hybrid' means for everyone.

Decent Flexibility, But Depends on Your Team
Pros: I like the WFH policy here for most of the week. The hybrid model works well for my design role. It's a solid perk for a mid-sized tech company in the semiconductor industry.
Cons: Not all teams get the same deal with flexibility. If you're tied to the Hillsboro, OR office lab, remote work is tough. It's not a universal benefit across all departments.
Advice to Management: Management should work towards more consistent hybrid or WFH options for non-lab roles. Standardizing policies would help with employee morale across the board.

Solid place for hardware engineering
Pros: Job security is pretty good, especially for Hardware Engineer roles. They don't have crazy layoffs like some bigger chip companies. The work is consistent, so it feels stable.
Cons: Career growth can feel a bit slow for individual contributors. You might feel a little stuck in your specific area. Compensation isn't always super competitive compared to larger tech firms.
Advice to Management: Give engineers clearer paths for advancement. It helps keep good people motivated and around.

Decent Balance, But Project Dependent
Pros: You get some flexibility with the hybrid model, which is nice if you're in the San Jose office. It's not always 9-5, but you can usually manage your time. For an Applications Engineer, the day-to-day can be pretty varied, which keeps things interesting.
Cons: Project deadlines can be tough, especially during critical FPGA development phases. You'll definitely have some long weeks in the semiconductor industry, it's just how it goes. It's hard to avoid crunch time sometimes when a release is coming up.
Advice to Management: Try to even out project loads more so engineers aren't always scrambling. Crunch time burns people out fast, and it's tough to retain good talent that way. Support even more flexible hours for hybrid roles.

Good place to learn, but growth slows
Pros: I've learned a lot about FPGA development here, especially as an entry-level FPGA Design Engineer. It's a stable company in the semiconductor industry, which feels good for job security. The projects are generally interesting and keep you engaged.
Cons: Career growth is really slow. There just aren't many clear promotion paths, and you can get stuck in your role for a long time. For an FPGA Design Engineer, it feels like upward mobility is pretty limited in this mid-sized corporate environment in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Advice to Management: Management should create more defined career ladders and offer clearer pathways for advancement for technical roles. More mentorship programs would also help retain talent.
