Your Role: Senior Java Backend Engineer Utrecht

You will immediately dive in, as part of one of the agile development teams with a DevOps mentality. Together, you’ll create massive impact that the organization will build upon for decades.

In this role, you’ll work with Java21, Spring Boot, RabbitMQ, Docker and AWS services on scalable microservices and event-driven systems processing huge volumes of events. You’ll actively contribute to domain modelling, API design and data consistency within distributed systems.

The coming years will focus entirely on scaling, performance improvements and building new features. AI will play a major role. On the one hand, you’ll use AI tools to make your work smarter: generating unit tests, detecting edge cases, speeding up code reviews or quickly prototyping features. On the other hand, you’ll help integrate AI into the platform itself, for example for anomaly detection, optimising data flows or smart automation for customers. This way, you’ll make an impact with AI on two fronts: your own productivity and the future of the platform.

As a Senior Java Backend Engineer, you’ll also expand your circle of influence. You’ll help define standards, ensure clean code and test automation are the norm, and lift colleagues to a higher level with your experience. This way, you’ll make impact not only on the codebase, but also on the team and the future of the platform.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in Java backend development
• Experience with Java11+ (preferably Java17 or 21) and Spring Boot
• Knowledge of cloud environments (AWS is a plus) and containerisation (Docker)
• Understanding of architecture design is a big plus (microservices, event-driven etc.)
• Experience with CI/CD and test automation is second nature to you
• Interest in AI applications is a strong plus
• Experience in mentoring or coaching colleagues
