Associate Marketing Manager

Leadership is okay, could be better here
Pros: The work-life balance for an Associate Marketing Manager is pretty good. We have a solid hybrid model, so it's only a few days in the Jersey City, NJ office. You get to work on some important biopharmaceutical projects too.
Cons: Leadership in my specific marketing department can be really hit or miss. Some managers just don't give clear direction, which makes project deadlines tough. There's also not much transparency from upper management on big company changes.
Advice to Management: Seriously, focus on leadership training for mid-level managers. Improve communication from the top, especially about strategic shifts in the biopharmaceutical industry. It would make a huge difference.

Work-Life Balance is Okay, Depends on Your Role
Pros: I liked the option for a hybrid model for many roles, especially as a Research Scientist. It definitely helped with personal appointments, not having to be in the Jersey City office every single day. The company generally tries to support flexibility where project timelines allow within the biopharmaceutical industry.
Cons: That said, the work-life balance can get tough during critical drug development phases. There's often an expectation for long hours, and some teams struggle with burnout. It's a common issue in a large corporate environment, but it can feel inconsistent.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize expectations around working hours and project timelines across different departments. Support managers in pushing back on unrealistic demands to prevent employee burnout.

Okay Benefits, Salary Lags for Pharma
Pros: Health insurance is really good, which is a big plus in the pharmaceuticals industry. The 401k match is also solid. I liked the generous PTO policy; it helps with work-life balance.
Cons: My base salary as a Senior Research Scientist felt low for the market, especially working in the Jersey City, NJ office. Annual raises were pretty minimal, and the bonus structure wasn't very exciting. It's tough to feel truly valued financially.
Advice to Management: Boost salaries, especially for experienced roles. It's hard to attract and keep top talent when pay isn't competitive. Focus on market-rate compensation, not just benefits.
