Job Description – Bilingual Java Developer

One of the biggest E-commerce companies' Logistics Department plays a critical role in supporting the rapid growth of its business, Japan’s largest online marketplace. As order volumes continue to rise, our warehouse management systems (WMS) and logistics platforms must operate with extreme reliability, high throughput, and mission-critical performance.

We design, build, and operate large-scale systems that manage inventory, order processing, shipping workflows, and real-time warehouse operations across multiple logistics centers.

Our teams collaborate closely with warehouse operators, robotics engineers, and

cross-functional development groups to ensure seamless, efficient, and scalable logistics operations that support millions of customers and merchants.

【Position Outline】

We are seeking a highly skilled Bilingual Java Developer with strong technical expertise and hands-on experience operating mission-critical, high-traffic systems. You will take ownership of infrastructure, automation, deployment pipelines, and operational excellence across warehouse and logistics platforms.

The ideal candidate excels at improving system reliability, driving automation, and supporting the full development-to-production lifecycle. You will collaborate with global teams and contribute to the continuous evolution of Rakuten’s logistics technology stack.

【Responsibilities】

• Participate in the full lifecycle of logistics and warehouse system operations, including maintenance, monitoring, automation, backend operations, and ensuring high availability.
• Manage regular application releases, troubleshoot production issues, and perform middleware and system performance tuning.
• Automate routine operational tasks using tools such as Jenkins, Ansible, Chef, Terraform, etc., and lead initiatives to improve productivity and quality.
• Continuously enhance system performance and stability to support mission-critical warehouse operations with near-100% uptime.
• Demonstrate strong ownership of services and proactively respond to production incidents.
• Propose and adopt new technologies, tools, and processes to improve development, testing, and operational workflows.
• Utilize AI-driven tools and automation to improve operational efficiency and system reliability.
  
  

・保守、監視、自動化、バックエンド運用、高可用性の確保など、物流・倉庫システム運用のフルライフサイクルに参加する。

・定期的なアプリケーションリリースの管理、本番障害のトラブルシューティング、ミドルウェアおよびシステムのパフォーマンスチューニングを行う。

・Jenkins、Ansible、Chef、Terraformなどのツールを使用して定型運用タスクを自動化し、生産性と品質向上のイニシアチブをリードする。

・ほぼ100%の稼働率でミッションクリティカルな倉庫オペレーションを支えるため、システムのパフォーマンスと安定性を継続的に強化する。

・担当サービスに対して強いオーナーシップを持ち、本番インシデントに積極的に対応する。

・開発・テスト・運用ワークフローを改善するための新技術・ツール・プロセスを提案・導入する。

・AIを活用したツールと自動化により、運用効率とシステム信頼性を向上させる。

【Requirements】

• Experience in web API development and operation with Java and Spring Framework is must
• Experience of web API development on Linux
• Experience of designing tables and queries of RDBMS (e.g. Oracle) for high performance applications
• Experience of team development with VCS (e.g. GitHub / Bitbucket) and pull requests
• Experience of code review and design review
• Experience of improving the architecture, performance analysis/tuning
• Knowledge of web API operation, performance improvement, and security
• Experience of designing architecture and choosing technology stack (e.g. middlewares)
• Experience of automation test
• Skills of database design, considering architecture for several systems
• Experience of interface design of web API
