About The Role
We are seeking experienced software engineers at the tech lead level to join our innovative project focused on building large language model (LLM) evaluation and training datasets. This role involves working on high-quality public GitHub repositories to create verifiable software engineering tasks based on real-world repository histories. The position requires a hands-on approach, involving environment automation, issue triaging, and assessing test coverage and code quality. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, particularly in navigating complex codebases, and a keen interest in AI and machine learning applications. This is a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the development of datasets that will shape the future of AI-assisted software engineering, working alongside researchers and other engineering professionals in a collaborative environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 3+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with demonstrated expertise in at least one programming language such as Java. Proficiency with version control systems like Git, containerization tools like Docker, and experience setting up and managing software pipelines are essential. Candidates should be comfortable understanding and modifying complex codebases, running local tests, and evaluating software quality. Prior experience contributing to open-source projects or evaluating open-source code is highly desirable. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are crucial for success in this role. Additionally, familiarity with automated testing, environment setup, and debugging complex systems will be considered advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and triage issues on trending open-source repositories hosted on GitHub, identifying potential challenges for LLM evaluation.
- Set up and configure development environments, including Dockerization and dependency management, to facilitate efficient testing and development.
- Evaluate unit test coverage and quality across various repositories, providing insights to improve code robustness.
- Modify and run codebases locally to test LLM performance in bug-fixing and code understanding scenarios.
- Collaborate closely with research teams to identify repositories and issues that present meaningful challenges for language models.
- Lead or mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative environment and ensuring high-quality project deliverables.
- Document processes, findings, and best practices to support ongoing project development and knowledge sharing.
