About The Role
We are seeking an experienced software engineer at the tech lead level to join our team working on large language model (LLM) evaluation and training datasets. This role involves contributing to the development of verifiable software engineering tasks based on public repository histories, utilizing synthetic approaches with human-in-the-loop methodologies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in working with high-quality open-source repositories, automating development environments, and evaluating code quality and test coverage. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in building datasets that enable LLMs to handle real-world software engineering problems across various programming languages and difficulty levels.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of three years of professional experience in software engineering, with proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java. Strong familiarity with version control systems like Git, containerization tools like Docker, and experience setting up and managing software pipelines are essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to navigate and understand complex codebases, run and modify projects locally, and evaluate code quality effectively. Experience with open-source contributions or evaluations is advantageous. Additional skills in automation, testing, and working with large datasets will be considered a plus.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and triage issues across trending open-source repositories on GitHub, identifying challenges relevant to LLM evaluation.
- Set up and configure development environments, including containerization and environment management using Docker.
- Assess unit test coverage, quality, and effectiveness within various codebases.
- Modify, run, and debug codebases locally to evaluate the performance of LLMs in bug-fixing and code understanding scenarios.
- Collaborate with research teams to identify repositories and issues that present meaningful challenges for language models.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative environment to accelerate project progress.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of dataset quality and coverage, ensuring diverse and comprehensive task generation.
