Flexibility Is a Big Challenge Here
Pros: Working at IFF in the flavor and fragrance industry is pretty stable. As a Formulation Chemist, the actual lab work can be really engaging. They offer decent benefits, which is a plus.
Cons: Work flexibility is a serious issue; it's just not prioritized. Getting approval for even occasional WFH days is tough beyond the set hybrid schedule. It feels like management doesn't fully trust employees with remote work, even for tasks that don't need to be onsite.
Advice to Management: Management needs to really reconsider their approach to work flexibility. Trust your teams more and standardize remote work policies across all departments. This would boost morale and potentially reduce turnover.

Decent Flexibility if You're Okay with Hybrid Model
Pros: We got a hybrid work option, which is nice for a corporate R&D role in the chemical industry. Being able to work from home a few days a week really helps cut down on the commute to the Dayton, NJ office. It's a solid step up from being fully onsite.
Cons: The flexibility can feel a bit rigid sometimes. There's a set number of days you have to be in the lab, even if your specific tasks for that day could be done remotely. It's not true work-from-anywhere, which can be tough.
Advice to Management: Consider more task-based flexibility for Research Scientist roles. Allow teams to decide best hybrid schedules. Trust employees more when tasks don't require lab presence.

Decent hybrid model for R&D roles
Pros: The hybrid setup for R&D Scientists is pretty solid. We get to work remote a couple of days, which is a huge plus for managing the New Jersey commute. It helps maintain a decent work-life balance in the flavor and fragrance industry.
Cons: The actual flexibility can vary a lot by manager. Some expect more onsite time for hands-on lab work than others. It's tough to get full remote options for most technical roles here at this large ingredients company.
Advice to Management: Keep pushing for more consistent flexibility across teams. Trust your employees to get the work done, even when they aren't physically in the Princeton office.
