Company Summary

Company Reviews

We are an independent women's fashion brand, celebrating individuality, community and empowering self expression. Each Motel piece is consciously designed by our wonderful team in London, with the essence of vintage, girlhood and independence at its core.

Motel was founded on a 1990s road trip that spanned California, New Mexico, and beyond. Taking its namesake from the motels they lived out of while on the road, founders Will and Andy have built Motel into the global brand it is today, with teams based in Bali and London.

Okay flexibility for a fast-paced role
Pros: As a Junior Merchandiser, I really appreciated being able to work remote from home most days. It's good that they trust you to manage your own hours, which isn't always common in the online fashion retailer industry.
Cons: While remote work is offered, the hours can get pretty long, especially during big sales or collection launches. There's not much flexibility on core meeting times, so you still feel pretty tied to your desk despite being remote.
Advice to Management: Try to reduce the number of mandatory meetings that break up the day, especially for remote staff. Give us more control over our daily schedules to truly leverage the remote setup.

Fast-paced E-commerce, Okay Work-Life Balance
Pros: I liked the creative freedom I had as a Social Media Coordinator. The team's really young and energetic, and it's cool being part of the e-commerce fashion industry. You get to learn a lot quickly.
Cons: The work-life balance here is tough during big campaigns. Expect to work long hours, sometimes weekends, especially in the Manchester office when launches are near. It's common for entry-level roles in this industry, but it can be draining.
Advice to Management: Try to implement more structured downtime after intense campaign periods. Support junior staff better with managing workloads to prevent burnout, especially for creative roles.

Motel Rocks: Good start, tough to grow
Pros: Good place if you're fresh out of uni looking for an entry-level position in fashion e-commerce. As a Junior Buyer, I got to learn a lot about product selection and vendor management. The teams in the Manchester office are generally pretty cool too, which helps.
Cons: But honestly, career growth here is tough. I felt pretty stuck after a year, with no clear path for promotion for buyer roles. There's not much in the way of structured career development, so you're kinda on your own.
Advice to Management: Create clearer promotion pathways. Invest in employee training for advancement. You're losing good people who want to move up in the retail industry.
