Mechanical Engineer

Leadership is hit or miss at this corporate giant
Pros: I've learned a ton about **mining equipment** and specialized engineering challenges. Our direct team leads are usually solid and you can count on them for support. It's a big **corporate** environment, so resources are generally there.
Cons: Upper management lacks clear vision and often changes direction without much explanation. This makes it tough for **mechanical engineers** to plan long-term projects. Communication from the top down is pretty weak.
Advice to Management: Focus on building a more cohesive leadership team. Better communication from the top would help a lot, especially for engineers working on critical **mining industry** projects.

Hybrid's okay, but don't expect much more.
Pros: The hybrid option is a real plus for us office staff. I'd come into the Salt Lake City office three days a week. Working remotely those two other days really helped my work-life balance. It's good for a big industrial company.
Cons: Don't count on full-time remote work; it's just not their thing. As a Mechanical Designer, getting more schedule flexibility was a struggle. It feels pretty traditional, which can be tough in this corporate environment.
Advice to Management: Management should look into more flexible schedules for all engineering roles. More remote options would keep folks happier and help with talent retention.

Career Growth Needs Your Own Push
Pros: There are opportunities for internal transfers if you seek them out, especially in other mineral processing divisions. They offer solid training for specific technical skills related to slurry pumps and mining equipment. You can definitely learn a lot if you're proactive.
Cons: Promotion paths aren't always clear for Process Engineer roles, which can be frustrating. It feels like you hit a ceiling sometimes and there's not enough investment in developing soft skills or leadership training. Moving up often means moving out of the Tucson office, which isn't always practical.
Advice to Management: Management needs to create clearer career progression paths for all technical roles, not just a select few. Invest more in leadership training and skill development programs that aren't purely technical. It would help retain good talent.

Leadership can be a bit inconsistent
Pros: Some managers are truly supportive. They give clear direction for your projects. It's a decent place for an experienced Mechanical Engineer looking for stable work in heavy equipment.
Cons: Leadership across the board is inconsistent. You'll find good leaders, but also some who micromanage or avoid making tough decisions. This can really slow down progress for minerals processing solutions.
Advice to Management: Work on leadership consistency across all teams. Empower managers to make faster decisions for their groups.

Field Service Technician

Pay's okay, but benefits could be better
Pros: The hourly pay for Field Service Technician roles is pretty competitive. I felt like I was compensated fairly for my work maintaining heavy mining equipment. There's also overtime available if you want it.
Cons: The benefits package, especially healthcare, feels like it's gotten worse over time. Premiums keep going up every year. Also, the bonus structure isn't very clear or consistent.
Advice to Management: Management really needs to look at the benefits package, especially healthcare. It's getting tough to justify staying when costs keep rising so much. A clearer, more consistent bonus program would help with morale too.
