About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer / Software Engineer to join our dynamic team at The Mobility House. In this role, you will be instrumental in building and operating an advanced energy trading platform that supports energy trading, analytics, and strategic decision-making. Sitting at the intersection of data engineering and software engineering, you will take ownership of scalable services and data pipelines deployed on AWS, ensuring the seamless flow of critical market data. Your primary responsibilities will include designing, implementing, and maintaining data pipelines capable of processing large volumes of energy market data in real-time and batch modes. You will collaborate closely with traders, analysts, and engineering teams to develop reliable, accurate, and timely data feeds that underpin dashboards and decision-making tools. This position offers an excellent opportunity to influence energy trading strategies and contribute to the broader energy transition by leveraging modern cloud-native data architectures and engineering best practices. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong sense of ownership, technical excellence, and a passion for solving complex data challenges in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Data Engineering or Software Engineering with a focus on data-intensive systems. You should have a solid understanding of ETL/ELT processes, workflow orchestration, and data modeling techniques. Hands-on experience with Airflow and/or Prefect for workflow automation is essential, along with practical knowledge of deploying containerized workloads in production environments using AWS ECS. Proficiency in Python is required, with an emphasis on writing clean, maintainable, and testable code. Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases are necessary for managing and querying large datasets effectively. Additionally, you should have a working knowledge of AWS services such as S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and other relevant cloud components. Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools is also highly valued. While not mandatory, familiarity with energy markets, power trading, commodities, or financial markets, as well as experience with streaming systems like Kinesis, Apache Spark, or Flink, will be considered advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain containerized data services deployed on AWS ECS, ensuring high availability and scalability.
- Design, build, and orchestrate data workflows using tools like Airflow or Prefect to automate data pipelines.
- Implement software engineering best practices, including modular design, comprehensive testing, CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and version control.
- Create and optimize analytics-ready data models tailored for trading, risk management, and performance reporting.
- Collaborate with traders, analysts, and engineering teams to define key metrics, KPIs, and data contracts to ensure data quality and relevance.
- Connect curated datasets to dashboards and BI tools such as Grafana to facilitate real-time analytics and visualization.
- Ensure data correctness, timeliness, and availability for critical business dashboards and decision-making tools.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, retries, and backfill mechanisms to maintain pipeline robustness and reliability.
- Optimize performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency of AWS infrastructure components.
- Document data systems, services, and models to promote self-service analytics and knowledge sharing across teams.
- Maintain a focus on strong engineering fundamentals, quality, and continuous improvement in all deliverables.
