About The Role

The Universität Trier is seeking a Junior Software Developer (m/w/d) to join the Department V: Hochschulentwicklung und Zentrale Services within the Central Administration. This role is integral to supporting the university's strategic development and operational excellence by managing software development projects, maintaining existing applications, and ensuring the smooth operation of IT systems within the university administration. The position offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to contribute to the digital transformation of the university, working closely with interdisciplinary teams and supporting the broader mission of academic excellence and administrative efficiency.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a completed apprenticeship as an IT specialist in application development or a comparable qualification. Demonstrated expertise in programming languages such as C#, ASP.NET, JavaScript, and Python, along with a solid understanding of database development, APIs, and security practices, is essential. The candidate should be capable of independently updating and expanding their technical knowledge and have familiarity with IT security and data protection regulations. Strong analytical, conceptual, and creative skills, combined with excellent communication abilities to interpret and implement technical requirements, are crucial. Preferred qualifications include experience in application development for higher education or public administration, familiarity with SAP interfaces (e.g., RFC, REST), and system administration skills involving Windows Server, Linux, IIS, Apache, or Nginx. Experience in user support or consulting is also advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Manage software development projects throughout their entire lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, and deployment.
• Maintain and enhance existing applications to ensure optimal performance and security.
• Document applications thoroughly and conduct training sessions for end-users and staff.
• Operate and administer IT systems used within the university administration, ensuring stability and security.
• Assist in client management and provide first-level support for administrative IT issues.
• Support the training and development of apprentices in application development, contributing to their professional growth.
• Collaborate closely with the IT team, other university departments, and external service providers to ensure seamless IT operations and project execution.
