Construction industry is one of the fastest-moving sectors in Malaysia and with major projects going on around the nation, the industry is not forecasted to slow down anytime soon. The construction industry is expected to grow by 7.3% in 2022 making the industry worth a whopping RM200bn.

Demand for construction professionals are higher than ever with Malaysia currently facing a shortage of supply of these professionals. When supply doesn’t meet demand it usually means one thing – more money. Candidates with relevant experience and skills can expect a big bonus, pay rise and strong interest from construction companies! 

Here are the top 5 in-demand jobs in the construction industry:

  1. Civil & Structure Engineer

The engineering field comprises many different disciplines and job opportunities. Civil engineers and structural engineers are two engineering specializations that both play an essential role in building today’s world. 

A civil engineer is a professional who designs and supervises the construction of public infrastructure. Structural engineering is a specialization of civil engineering. Therefore, a structural engineer receives training on civil engineering in addition to structural engineering requirements. 

2. Construction Manager

Construction managers oversee and lead a range of building projects from beginning to end. They are responsible for setting and keeping schedules, monitoring finances, and making certain that everybody is doing what they should, every day. Construction managers also help ensure that the workplace is free of safety hazards, and they deal with the various working relationships that exist on a job site.

When looking to hire a Construction Manager for a high rise project, many would expect that their job would not complete until the project is complete…or so you would think. A construction site safety supervisor is responsible for monitoring or overseeing construction sites and making sure that workers within the environment adhere to government regulations/standards regarding safety.

5. M&E Engineer

Mechanical and Engineering (M&E) is still a rather new service in Malaysia. M&E management is also more commonly known as Building Services here. However these terms carry different meanings. This may lead most of you to question what Mechanical and Engineering (M&E) is all about. To put it simply, Mechanical and Engineering (M&E) refers to the mechanical and electrical systems installed and operated by a facility management company in facilities management.
