About The Role
Parallels has an immediate opening for a Principal Backend Developer. This role is integral to our mission of redefining digital productivity solutions. We are seeking an experienced and visionary professional to lead the architectural vision and technical strategy for our core systems. As a Principal Backend Developer, you will oversee a team of 7-8 engineers, guiding high-level design, cloud application architecture, and defining system boundaries. Your expertise will be crucial in developing secure, scalable, and efficient backend systems that support our innovative products. You will act as the technical authority, making critical architectural decisions, establishing best practices, and ensuring the robustness of our infrastructure. Your leadership will help shape the future of our platform, driving complex architectural transitions and fostering a culture of technical excellence.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in backend development with a proven track record in principal or architect roles
- Deep expertise in Python and related backend frameworks such as Django and FastAPI
- Strong knowledge of messaging systems including RabbitMQ, Celery, Kafka, and related technologies
- Hands-on experience with databases like PostgreSQL and Redis
- Proficiency in designing and implementing enterprise identity management solutions (SCIM, OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML)
- Experience architecting secure and scalable integrations and APIs
- Deep understanding of cloud architecture, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong background in microservices architecture, refactoring, and system boundary definition
- Proven ability to influence engineering practices and lead architectural transitions
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain complex, critical system mechanisms, ensuring high performance and reliability
- Define and implement the technical strategy, including technology stack and code organization across repositories
- Make strategic build‑vs‑buy decisions, evaluating internal tools versus third-party solutions
- Architect secure, scalable, and efficient integration patterns, establishing best practices for third-party communication, identity management, and SSO/SCIM integration
- Audit existing microservices architecture and implement strict bounded contexts to improve system modularity
- Design and own robust, scalable APIs, emphasizing resilience, fault tolerance, and performance in cloud environments
- Partner with engineering leadership to set and enforce technical standards and drive architectural transitions
- Mentor and guide a team of engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement
- Implement architectural skeletons and interfaces that enable AI-driven code generation while maintaining system integrity
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with product and business goals
