Hackergal is a Canadian charity dedicated to reshaping who leads, who builds, and who belongs in STEAM fields. We are committed to transforming the tech industry into a diverse and inclusive space that reflects the talent and potential of underrepresented groups. Our commitment runs through everything we do, with a focus on reaching more girls* and gender-diverse learners across Canada, with a focus on BIPOC communities, French-speaking areas, and northern, remote, and rural areas.
We work directly with educators and community partners across Canada to provide free and accessible programming for learners in grades 6 to 12.
Since 2015, we’ve reached 34,495 learners, engaged 2,610 facilitators, and partnered with 1,603 schools and community organizations.
Our core programs include:
1. A National Hackathon Program 2. Hackergal Hub, our free online learning platform 3. Ambassador Program 4. Scholarship Program
Hackergal is committed to values of equity, education, and community, driving us to empower and inspire girls* and gender-diverse learners in technology.
We are committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion. We welcome the participation of girls, gender-diverse, non-binary, and two-spirit learners, embracing an inclusive definition of “girls” and “women” to ensure every learner who identifies as a girl feels welcome.

Pros: The mission to close the gender gap in tech is inspiring, and it's fulfilling to see the direct impact on young girls. The team is very collaborative and supportive, embodying a true sense of community. There are good opportunities to learn and grow within the non-profit sector and take on new responsibilities as the organization expands its reach nationally.
Cons: As with many non-profits, the pay and benefits package is not as competitive as in the corporate tech industry. There can be periods of intense workload, especially around program delivery deadlines, which sometimes strains resources. Job security, while generally stable, can feel more tied to funding cycles than in larger, for-profit entities.
Advice to Management: Continue to focus on sustainable funding models to enhance job security and benefits. Also, explore more structured project management tools to help manage workload during peak periods more effectively, ensuring team well-being.
