Job Responsibilities

• To perform at the same level of duties (including calls) and responsibilities (same roster) of a Medical Officer. Their competence will be individually assessed by the Head of Department (HOD) and thereby given clinical duties accordingly.
• To assist, guide and supervise the House Officers in their duties, and review all new cases as soon as possible following admission and check on the House Officer's findings and notes
• To write medical reports. Urgent reports should be prepared within a week and non-urgent reports within two weeks.
• To ensure the accuracy and completion of the Hospital Inpatient Discharge Summary (HIDS) Forms and the diagnosis & disease index on the front sheet of the case records. In cases of difficulty, the Senior Medical Staff (Registrar and above) should be consulted.
• To assist the Senior Medical Staff (Registrar and above) in the running of Specialist Outpatient Clinics, and should not make any major changes to the treatment regime or discharge long-term patients from follow up without the prior approval of the Senior Medical Staff.

• To explain procedures to patients and their relatives, as well as obtaining consent for such cases, if so designated by their Senior Medical Staff.
• To sign Death Certificates and obtain consent for autopsy of deceased patients.
• To inform the Senior Medical Staff of any major problems and discharges against medical advice. They are permitted to counsel patients who wish to be discharged against medical advice.

Overview

Resident Physicians and Senior Resident Physicians are experienced doctors with a recognized postgraduate qualification and who have completed the 3-year basic postgraduate specialist training. They are expected to undertake considerable responsibilities in addition to those of Medical and House Officers.

Job Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the following:

· Responsible for the overall supervision and day-to-day running of the wards, including patient care. Shall demonstrate good diagnostic and clinical management acumen.

· Responsible for the supervision and teaching of House Officers, Medical Officers and Trainees.

· See all cold referrals not specially referred to any consultant by name.

· Responsible for seeing urgent referrals while on night duty.

· Inform the Consultant on call of all difficult and complex cases that are admitted into the ward or referred for an opinion.

· Expected to do ward rounds at night and outside of office hours when on call and during admitting nights.

· In emergency situations and outside of office hours, Resident Physicians and Senior Resident Physicians may also oversee the write out and sign all consultation referral letters.

· Responsible for the compilation of Confidential Mortality Reports for submission to the Chairman Medical Board through the Head of Department.

· A Resident Physician or Senior Resident Physician in charge of a ward may also represent the ward or hospital at Coroner’s inquests or medico-legal hearings involving patients in his/her particular ward.

· Expected to attend and participate in all departmental ward rounds including the combined Hospital teaching seminars, clinic-pathological case conference etc.

· In surgical disciplines, Resident Physicians and Senior Resident Physicians have additional duties of carrying out elective and emergency operations to the level of complexity permitted by senior staff of the department.

· Resident Physicians and Senior Resident Physicians of surgical disciplines should teach Medical Officers basic operative procedures and guide them when necessary.

· Resident Physicians and Senior Resident Physicians shall possess specialty knowledge and show enthusiasm in improving knowledge.

The function of the Physician Associate is to provide high quality patient care in conjunction with the Primary Care Team. The post holder will see undifferentiated patients primarily in primary care settings but may be tasked to a variety of other areas, including but not limited to; Community Outreach Clinics, Home/Nursing Care Settings and locations where the Practice may operate from to support onward care for local residents. The post will require you to work flexibly, which will involve working across the practice catchment areas as part of a wider clinical team including General Practitioners (GP), Specialty Consultants, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Paramedics, Pharmacists and other Allied Health Professionals. Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team, you will undertake the appropriate history taking, physical assessment, undertaking the appropriate investigations and formulating correct and appropriate management plan, and initiate treatment as per clinical pathways/protocols and Patient Group Directives. The post holder will work as semi-autonomously as they are legally able but will remain supervised by a named Consultant / GP as a dependent practitioner. The post holder will be expected to deliver stroke care across all areas of the pathway including HASU and ASU ward rounds, TIA clinic and Stroke follow up clinics. They will work alongside our multidisciplinary team (MDT) of stroke physicians, stroke nurse consultant, stroke nurse specialists, clinical neuropsychologist, and stroke therapists. We also have a KSS deanery Stroke ST3 post and are appointing 2 middle grades to be entirely based within the stroke department. FY1, FY2, IMT, and GP trainees rotate through the department. The successful applicant will take part in a 1:8 on call rota providing 24/7 thrombolysis and weekend HASU ward rounds. Our thrombectomy providers are St Georges University Hospital, London and Kings College Hospital, London. We have close links with our colleagues in neurology, neuroradiology and vascular surgery with weekly MDT meetings.

We are looking for like-minded physicians who wish to pursue a career in private practice in family medicine. The role reports to the Medical Affairs Director of the Group. This is a full-time on-site role for a Family Physician. You will be responsible for day-to-day provision of clinical services to the BridgePoint Health group of clinics. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that provides healthcare services through our primary healthcare facilities.

The Role
