About The Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly adaptable Forward-Deployed Engineer to join our dynamic team at Foxglove. This role is tailored for a product-minded full-stack engineer who excels in customer-facing environments and enjoys tackling complex technical challenges associated with robotics and observability. As a Forward-Deployed Engineer, you will work directly with strategic customers to integrate and extend Foxglove’s platform within their operational environments. Your responsibilities will include collaborating closely with customer teams to understand their unique workflows, designing and implementing end-to-end solutions, and providing technical guidance to ensure seamless adoption of our tools. Additionally, you will contribute upstream to enhance our core product based on real-world feedback, acting as a trusted engineering partner and a key driver of customer success. This position offers a unique blend of hands-on development, creative problem-solving, and meaningful customer engagement, making it ideal for engineers who thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments and are passionate about advancing robotics technology.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience in JavaScript/TypeScript development
- 3+ years of experience in Robotics or Autonomous systems
- Proven track record in customer-facing engineering roles, preferably within robotics or autonomy sectors
- Extensive experience in rapid prototyping and iterative delivery with external stakeholders
- Strong front-end skills in React and TypeScript
- Back-end experience in Node.js or Python
- Familiarity with C++ or ROS is a plus
- Solid understanding of network and cloud architecture (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Experience with database-backed REST APIs
- Ability to own problems end-to-end, learn missing components, and communicate complex technical details effectively
- Willingness to travel extensively and work onsite with customers as needed
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills
Responsibilities
- Embed deeply with customer teams to understand their business goals, domain constraints, and technical requirements
- Architect and develop end-to-end solutions using an experiment-driven, iterative approach (TypeScript/React, Node.js, Python, ROS, SQL)
- Draft clear scopes of work, project timelines, and success metrics for proofs-of-concept and production deployments
- Code collaboratively with customer engineers, deploying solutions on cloud or on-premises environments to ensure successful adoption
- Partner closely with Sales and Customer Success teams to deliver seamless experiences and measurable outcomes for clients
- Relay frontline insights to Research, Product, and Engineering teams to influence product roadmap and improvements
- Document best practices, contribute to internal libraries, and mentor future Forward-Deployed Engineers to scale the function efficiently
- Provide technical leadership during customer engagements, ensuring solutions meet their evolving needs
