About the company
Our client is an early-stage AI-native commerce platform building a direct alternative to Shopify and the fragmented legacy commerce stack. The product bundles merchant tools into one system with an AI agent as the primary interface. Founded in 2025, the company has approximately 10 employees, more than 30,000 users, a substantial production codebase, and $7 million in funding.
The role and why it matters
You will join a small, product-led engineering team and own meaningful parts of the platform across the front end and back end. This is a high-agency role for an engineer who wants broad responsibility, works quickly with real customer feedback, and uses AI fluently to increase the speed and quality of delivery.
What you'll do
- Build across the stack and own features from technical design through production launch.
- Treat the front end as a product surface by understanding user behavior and improving the experience, not only implementing designs.
- Design and extend backend systems, APIs, data flows, and integrations that power an AI-native commerce platform.
- Use AI tools as a core part of the development workflow to automate work and accelerate iteration.
- Ship quickly, learn from real users, and improve the product based on direct feedback.
- Work closely with the founders and engineering teammates to make product and technical decisions.
- Take initiative on ambiguous problems without waiting for constant direction.
What we're looking for
- 2 or more years of professional experience as a full-stack software engineer.
- Strong ability across both backend and frontend development, with examples of features owned end to end.
- Experience at a high-caliber engineering organization, preferably a venture-backed startup or another product-led, high-growth company.
- Practical fluency with AI development tools and a track record of using them to scale or automate work.
- High agency, strong product sense, and a bias toward action.
- Clear communication and a collaborative approach to feedback and decision-making.
- A strong technical education, founder experience, or another record of exceptional technical achievement.
Bonus points
- Experience as a startup founder or early engineer.
- Personal projects or products that demonstrate curiosity and ownership.
- Experience with modern commerce, marketplace, or creator-economy products.
- Experience building AI-native product experiences.
Compensation and benefits
- $200K-$250K base salary.

Location and work model
- This is a full-time, on-site role in San Francisco. The team operates with nontraditional startup hours and this is not a 9-to-5 position. Candidates must already be in the San Francisco Bay Area or be willing to relocate. The company can support eligible visa transfers, including OPT and H-1B transfers, but candidates should clearly explain any transfer or sponsorship timeline.
