About The Role
As a Software Engineer on the Data Engineering team at Lumos, you will be instrumental in shaping the core infrastructure that powers our identity data platform. Your primary focus will be designing and implementing shared primitives that facilitate seamless access and manipulation of identity data across multiple products and integrations. You will lead initiatives such as developing an integration-agnostic Access Graph API, which will enable our Identity Intelligence product to generate insights across diverse access-graph-enabled systems, extending beyond current single-integration limitations. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on building scalable, resilient, and observable platform components that serve as the backbone for Lumos's innovative identity solutions. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, drive technical excellence, and influence architectural decisions to ensure our platform remains robust, scalable, and adaptable to future needs.
Qualifications
- Strong experience as a backend or platform engineer, with a focus on building service layers over transactional databases such as MySQL or Postgres.
- Experience with ingestion and sync pipelines using tools like Dagster, Airflow, or similar frameworks.
- Proficiency in one or more modern backend programming languages, including Python, Go, or TypeScript, emphasizing clean API design, testability, and observability.
- Experience designing service or API interfaces over transactional data stores, with knowledge of contract definition and evolution, preferably using gRPC or comparable technologies.
- Solid understanding of data correctness, observability, and SLOs, especially in systems where downstream products rely on accurate and timely data.
- Familiarity with identity and access governance (IGA) data, including identities, accounts, entitlements, group memberships, and non-human identities, and their impact on governance at scale.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to technical decision-making and mentoring.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop core components of the identity data platform, including APIs, service layers, and interfaces that transform raw identity data into shared primitives for product teams.
- Extend and improve the data interface framework, establishing reusable patterns for contract design, versioning, and observability to support multiple teams and products.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to migrate product surfaces from direct integrations and database reads to well-defined, reliable APIs.
- Build and maintain primitives such as Access Graph APIs and the Unified Entitlements Data API, ensuring seamless access to high-quality identity data for engineering, product, and AI teams.
- Lead architectural reviews, mentor junior engineers, and pair on complex data interface challenges to foster technical growth and consistency.
- Champion best practices around resilience, scalability, and observability across the platform to ensure high availability and performance.
