About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Software Engineer specializing in Java to join our dynamic Software Engineering team in San Diego, CA. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on revolutionary systems supporting critical defense and aerospace projects. The successful candidate will collaborate within an agile environment, contributing to the full software development lifecycle, from prototype design to deployment. This position requires a proactive individual capable of working in a fast-paced setting, with high expectations for quality and innovation. The role involves close coordination with Systems Engineering, Cloud & Application teams, Test Automation, DevSecOps, and Systems Test, ensuring seamless integration and delivery of complex solutions. Due to the nature of the work, the position mandates on-site presence with occasional travel up to 10%. Clearances are essential, and candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance with SAP/PAR access.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 5+ years of related experience; or Master’s Degree in STEM with 3+ years; or PhD in STEM with 1+ year.
- Prior experience in Agile development methodologies, including roles such as Product Owner or SCRUM Master.
- Proficiency in the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Extensive experience with Java, including Java microservices and GUI applications.
- Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and related technologies such as JMS, Web Services, XML, XPath, XSLT, and XSD.
- Experience with scripting or programming languages like Python, Go, C++, C#, PowerShell, Bash, or KornShell.
- Hands-on experience with Cloud technologies and service providers.
- Ability to transfer and maintain an in-scope Top Secret clearance and obtain required program access, including SAP/PAR.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment, including Systems Engineering, Cloud & Application teams, and Test Automation groups.
- Participate actively in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including prototyping, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
- Design and develop enterprise-grade solutions utilizing Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) within a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) framework.
- Implement object-oriented design principles and patterns to create scalable, maintainable software components.
- Develop and integrate Web Services, XML, and related technologies to support system interoperability.
- Contribute to continuous improvement processes in an Agile environment, including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Ensure adherence to security protocols and best practices, particularly in cloud and containerized environments.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation and participate in code reviews to uphold quality standards.
- Occasionally travel up to 10% for project needs or client engagements.
