About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to join our Core Automation team within the Platform group. In this role, you will be at the forefront of designing and building Agentic AI systems that revolutionize how Coinbase operates. Your work will focus on reimagining customer support and compliance processes by developing intelligent agents, orchestration frameworks, and measurement systems that deliver scalable, delightful customer experiences. You will own the technical direction for production AI systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to turn innovative ideas into reality. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the future of automation in financial services, leveraging cutting-edge AI technologies to create scalable, reliable, and impactful solutions.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of architecting distributed systems
- Extensive experience in deploying and managing production AI/ML applications
- Deep understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) and their application in real-world systems
- Proficiency in designing APIs, orchestration layers, and evaluation frameworks for agentic AI systems
- Experience measuring and improving grounding, reducing hallucinations, and building safety guardrails for AI models
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor engineering teams on system design and best practices
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
Responsibilities
- Architect and develop Agentic AI systems that support Coinbase’s compliance automation and operational needs
- Design foundational APIs and measurement frameworks to ensure AI agents are relevant, reliable, and deliver customer delight
- Lead the technical strategy for distributed AI systems, establishing architecture patterns and strategic roadmaps in partnership with engineering leadership
- Create reusable primitives and orchestration solutions to enable scalable AI automation across multiple domains beyond initial focus areas
- Mentor engineers on AI system design, coding standards, and production-readiness practices for large language model applications
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI systems seamlessly into existing workflows and infrastructure
- Continuously evaluate and improve AI models for grounding, hallucination reduction, and safety guardrails
