Program Manager

2. About the Opportunity:

The Program Manager leads the Youth Conservation Programs team, overseeing multiple cohorts of youth participants in residential, on-site conservation projects within national forests. This role is central to ensuring effective program execution, staff leadership, and participant development. By managing logistics, staff, and partnerships, the Program Manager facilitates the program''s mission to advance conservation education and career readiness for young people.

3. Responsibilities:

• Manage and supervise 2-3 Program Coordinators responsible for youth crews
• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, and crew management
• Maintain relationships with project partners and stakeholders
• Coordinate with US Forest Service staff to align goals and budgets
• Conduct annual reviews of program materials and recruitment strategies
• Identify and address barriers for underserved populations
• Plan and monitor program budgets and expenditures
• Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment
• Coordinate staff training and compliance workshops
• Guide logistical planning for housing, meals, recreation, and safety
• Support emergency incident response efforts
• Manage participant recruitment and onboarding processes
• Collect and analyze program feedback and prepare reports
• Provide content for publications and grant applications

4. Requirements:

• Experience mentoring high school students and entry-level staff
• Knowledge of conservation, land management, or outdoor recreation safety
• Experience with crisis response (mental health, natural disasters, etc.)
• Ability to oversee financial planning and program performance tracking
• Willingness to travel approximately 15% annually

5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:

• Compensation ranges from $27 to $35 per hour, based on experience
• Business laptop provided
• Lodging, transportation, and meals covered during program periods
• Travel expenses to training and host sites covered, including rental vehicle
• Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification provided
• Potential access to healthcare, 403B retirement, and commuter stipend after probation
