About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Platform Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in our ongoing transition from legacy ETL systems to a modern, cloud-native data architecture built on Python, Kubernetes, and AI-assisted workflows. The ideal candidate will play a key part in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, fault-tolerant data pipelines that support our advanced analytics and operational needs. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build new capabilities while ensuring the stability and reliability of existing legacy systems. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology, contribute to the modernization of our data platform, and act as a technical subject matter expert in both internal and client-facing discussions. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving innovation, improving system performance, and supporting our mission to revolutionize policing through data-driven solutions.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent professional experience, with at least six years of experience in building production-grade data systems. Demonstrated ownership of system design and major platform components is essential. Candidates should have strong expertise in developing ETL/ELT pipelines for both structured and unstructured data, along with proficiency in SQL, data modeling, and Python engineering. Experience working with cloud-based architectures, particularly AWS, is required, as is familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and orchestration frameworks like Airflow. Candidates should have a proven track record of modernizing legacy systems, troubleshooting complex data issues, and implementing DevOps practices such as CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (IaC). Knowledge of Spark/EMR, relational and NoSQL databases, and data modeling techniques will be advantageous. The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and to communicate technical concepts effectively is also critical.
Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities will include designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, fault-tolerant data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes across a modern technology stack. You will contribute to the design and implementation of a greenfield data platform leveraging Python, Kubernetes, and AWS services, ensuring seamless integration with existing legacy systems. Leading development discussions, establishing engineering patterns and standards, and assessing legacy data processes to drive modernization efforts will be key aspects of your role. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver clean, reliable, and production-ready data, while continuously improving pipeline performance, observability, and system reliability. Additionally, you will design and integrate AI-assisted workflows to enhance data processing and system interaction, supporting documentation efforts to facilitate scalability and platform adoption. Providing technical mentorship to junior engineers and acting as a subject matter expert in both internal and client discussions will be vital to the success of your role.
