2. About the Opportunity:
The Distributed Systems Engineer (Data Platform) role is focused on building highly-available, scalable, and data-driven services that support both internal and external users. The position contributes to developing a platform that enables rapid product development and integration of new data collection methods by maintaining and enhancing distributed infrastructure for internet-wide scanning and data processing.
3. Responsibilities:
- Develop large-scale, real-time services and applications leveraging extensive datasets.
- Create tooling, libraries, frameworks, and services supporting security, research, and data platform efforts.
- Transition prototypes into reliable internal tools, services, or platform features.
- Engage in planning and technical discussions to deliver appropriate solutions.
- Maintain systems such as data pipelines, messaging systems, databases, caching layers, and cloud or on-premises services.
- Collaborate with Machine Learning Engineers and Security Researchers to implement solutions impacting security outcomes.
4. Requirements:
- Over 5 years of software engineering experience with distributed systems (e.g., data ingestion pipelines, databases, services).
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming; experience with Go preferred.
- Experience with at least one cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Familiarity with message queue technologies (AWS Kinesis, Google Pub/Sub, Kafka, or similar).
- Experience working with databases such as BigTable, Cloud Spanner, HBase, Cassandra, or others.
- Understanding of distributed systems concepts including scalability, fault tolerance, and reliability.
- Familiarity with AI applications.
- Ability to write maintainable, testable, and understandable code.
- Strong communication skills and effective collaboration with engineers and product managers.
- Openness to responsibly applying AI to enhance work efficiency and impact.
5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:
- Salary range for high cost of living areas is $174,000 to $206,000 USD, plus bonus eligibility and equity.
- Salary range for other locations is $151,000 to $191,000 USD, plus bonus eligibility and equity.
- Final compensation is based on experience, skills, location, and other relevant factors.
