About The Role
The Back End Software Developer role at LMI is a critical position focused on supporting the development and enhancement of the RAPTR platform, which specializes in modeling, simulation, prototyping, wargaming, and analysis within the space domain. This senior-level position involves designing and implementing robust backend services that enable analysts, data scientists, and engineers to perform complex analytical tasks efficiently. The successful candidate will translate analytical and operational requirements into scalable backend solutions, including APIs, data pipelines, and integration services that facilitate modeling, simulation, and trade space analysis. The role requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure backend capabilities align with mission objectives and analytical workflows. The position offers the flexibility of remote work for qualified candidates, with a preference for those located near Colorado Springs or able to support on-site activities. This role is ideal for professionals who enjoy working at the intersection of software engineering and analytical problem-solving, delivering capabilities rapidly to support evolving mission needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
- 5-10 years of experience in backend software development
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Node.js
- Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and service-oriented architectures
- Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
- Experience supporting data-intensive applications or analytical platforms
- Familiarity with backend frameworks such as Django, Flask, or Spring Framework
- Strong understanding of software design principles, performance optimization, and scalable system architecture
- Experience with version control systems such as Git
- Ability to adapt in a fast-paced and evolving environment
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Preferred qualifications include experience in modeling & simulation, wargaming, or analytical platforms, familiarity with cloud environments like AWS or Azure, building data pipelines, exposure to space or defense systems, experience with machine learning workflows, knowledge of containerization tools such as Docker, and an active TS/SCI clearance.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend services and application logic supporting modeling, simulation, and analytical workflows within RAPTR
- Translate analytical and data science requirements into functional software features, including data ingestion, scenario configuration, and results management
- Design and implement APIs and service layers that facilitate interaction between the platform, analytical tools, and external systems
- Build and manage data pipelines and storage solutions capable of supporting large-scale analytical runs and scenario outputs
- Optimize performance and ensure scalability for handling high-volume simulation data
- Collaborate with trade space analysts, data scientists, and systems engineers to align backend capabilities with analytical objectives
- Integrate backend services with front-end interfaces and visualization tools for comprehensive user experiences
- Implement security best practices to safeguard sensitive and mission-critical data
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure high-quality, reliable software delivery
- Support integration efforts with engineering artifacts such as CONOPs, system architectures, interfaces, and data models
